Snapdragon 821, not 823, could see daylight soon inside Asus ZenFone 3 Deluxe

What comes after Snapdragon 820, Qualcomm’s current flagship smartphone SoC, and the go-to choice for dozens of high-end Android device manufacturers, including Samsung, LG, HTC, Sony, Xiaomi, Asus, ZTE, Lenovo, and even HP?

Seeing as how the SD800 was followed by an 801, then 805 and 808, while the 810 jumped straight to 820, truly anything’s possible. But if no minor upgrade is in the pipeline until the radically improved 830 enters the scene next year, that means the fall 2016 heroes will theoretically be exactly as potent as their spring predecessors.

Nobody wants that, of course, so the SD823 has been making the rumor rounds lately, and now, there’s Snapdragon 821 chatter as well. We could see both these processors released over the coming months, or just one, with some hard evidence pointing at the 821 powering an as-yet unannounced top-of-the-line Asus ZenFone 3 Deluxe configuration.

If leaked promotional materials prove trustworthy, the 14nm-based Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 is only set to gain 0.15GHz clock speed, surging from 2.15 to 2.3GHz. The 823 sounds slightly more exciting, allegedly capping off at 2.6GHz, but either way, the 825 and/or 830 will be the true next-gen juggernauts to look forward to.
