Just after the launch of Lenovo Zuk Z1 smartphone, which is powered by Cyanogen OS, it has been confirmed by the CEO of Yu Televentures, Rahul Sharma that the company has ended up the exclusive partnership with Cyanogen in India.
The launch of Zuk Z1 smartphone with Cyanogen aroused several questions around the country as the OS developer was in an exclusive deal with Yu in India.

The Micromax’s subsidiary had launched three smartphones – Yureka, Yureka Plus, and Yutopia, running on Cyanogen OS. According to a report, the smartphone maker believes that the Cyanogen OS did come with its share of bugs and it failed to get any traction with YU devices. Sharma added that they had launched few smartphones with stock Android in the market and discovered that customers liked them over Cyanogen-based handsets.
The devices running on Cyanogen OS weren’t getting timely updates, which seems to be a reason for the company to end up the deal and opt for stock Android. However, Yu revealed that the existing phones backed by Cyanogen OS will get updates, but the upcoming phones will be stock Android-based.
Besides this, Sharma announced a new platform on Monday that would act as an open source bank of source codes for developers. These source codes will be available free for download and could be run on any device.
The company has internally named the project as ‘Project Highway’. Sharma said that the platform will be populated by the source codes from Google, MediaTek, and Qualcomm. These will be released to end users after undergoing to the company’s in-house developers. Project Highway is also called as ‘Source Code Supply Chain Management System’.
